About four lanesChapter 02

One more lane.
A lot more game.

Beatstar: three lanes
1 Beat: four lanes

Diagrams of the layout, not screenshots.

Beatstar played on three lanes. 1 Beat plays on four.

One extra lane sounds small. Three lanes give six ways to hit one or two notes at once; four lanes give ten. Each thumb gets two lanes of its own, so patterns can cross, split and stack in ways three lanes have no room for.

Same three moves you already know. Tap, hold, swipe. If you could read a Beatstar chart, you can read a 1 Beat chart — there is just more of it to keep up with. The aim is charts that are harder to master, not harder to read.

About the gameChapter 03

What is in it

Notes fall to the white line. Your thumbs rest on the pads beneath it. A diagram, not a screenshot.
  1. 01

    Four lanes, portrait

One hand works. Two hands work better. Notes are tap, hold, and swipe.

  2. 02

Tap area sits below the judgement line

Your thumbs never cover the notes you are reading.

  3. 03

Timing read from the touch event

Judgement does not wait for the next frame, so a dropped frame is not a missed note.

  4. 04

    No-fail by default

A bad run ends as a bad score, not as a prompt to watch an advert to continue.

  5. 05

    Per-device audio offset

Calibrate once per pair of headphones instead of once per session.

  6. 06

    Reduced-flashing mode

A single switch that gates every visual effect, not a partial one.

You can measure your own devices right now, before 1 Beat exists: try the audio offset calculator.

About BeatstarChapter 04

What we learned
from Beatstar

Beatstar's servers shut down for good on 31 October 2025 and it is not coming back. A lot of what 1 Beat is trying to be, it learned there.

Beatstar gameplay: notes falling down three lanes toward the hit line

Songs you already know carry the game.

Beatstar put real hits on a note highway, and that is what made a three-minute run feel like the song rather than an exercise.

We take: chart-topping tracks across pop, rock, hip-hop and EDM.

Still building: the song list. Nothing to announce yet.

Beatstar gameplay: notes falling down three lanes toward the hit line

Tap, hold and swipe is enough.

Beatstar played in portrait on three lanes, with taps, holds and swipes.

We take: the same three note types, in portrait.

Still building: the charts themselves.

Beatstar gameplay: notes falling down three lanes toward the hit line

Timing has to feel fair on your own headphones.

If Beatstar ever felt slightly off on wireless earbuds, that was the audio route, not you.

We take: a separate offset remembered for every output device.

Still building: Bluetooth drift, which a stored offset does not remove.

Screenshots above are of Beatstar, shown as placeholders until 1 Beat has its own.
